Lola\u2019s story<\/a>\u00a0shows it’s not abortion that empowers women.<\/p>\n

Born in C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire, Lola grew up not really\u00a0knowing her parents; her father died when she was six. After a war broke out, she emigrated to the United States, even though she spoke\u00a0no English. Lola landed a job and met someone who she thought was great…until she found out she was pregnant.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\u201cAt first, it was great, you know,\u201d Lola said. \u201cWhen I told him I was pregnant, he just disappeared, yeah, from my entire life.\u201d<\/p>\n

Feeling scared, Lola felt like a disappointment to her family.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wasn\u2019t ready to be a mom. I didn\u2019t think I could do it. It was hard,\u201d Lola recalled. \u201cI felt like I was a disappointment, like I disappointed my aunt, I disappointed my family. I was like, \u2018I want to do abortion.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Instead, Lola sought help in her difficult situation and called one of Human Coalition\u2019s Dallas\/Fort Worth women\u2019s care clinics. She found not only\u00a0support,\u00a0but also empowerment. Kendra, a Human Coalition volunteer, met with Lola, and offered her prayer and constant support.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe, like, prayed with me, showed me the Bible and stuff,\u201d Lola said. \u201c[Kendra] was like, \u2018I will help you, I will be here.\u2019 I was like, \u2018I don\u2019t know. I can\u2019t be a mom. I\u2019m not sure yet.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

So often, women feel like they are left with few\u00a0options besides\u00a0abortion because they don\u2019t have support from the fathers, their family members, or\u00a0friends. A lack of support is the unfortunate reality many pregnant mothers are faced with.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Compassionate people like Kendra really make the difference between life and death in these mothers\u2019 lives. Lola found the support she lacked from her baby’s\u00a0father and her family through Human Coalition.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt least I have people supporting us,\u201d Lola said. \u201cI still have people supporting me, so if I didn\u2019t have the support, I probably wouldn\u2019t keep him. … [Kendra] really came through for me. She called most of the time to check on me.\u00a0And I\u2019m really grateful for her.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lola’s story shows that abortion doesn\u2019t empower women. It puts vulnerable mothers in an even worse situation than they are already in, making them feel trapped in a choice they otherwise wouldn’t make. Women deserve other options besides abortion — real options that embrace life and love.<\/p>\n
