As Novielli noted, these donations can&#8217;t possibly be flooding in due to some sort of financial need on Planned Parenthood&#8217;s part &#8212; after all, they sank $30 million into Hillary Clinton&#8217;s failed presidential bid, and they pay their CEO nearly a million dollars annually, not to mention the salaries of the organization&#8217;s other well-compensated executives.<\/p>\n<p>The question is,\u00a0why this sudden outpouring of donations?<\/p>\n<div class=\"ArticleAd1\">\n<p><!-- \/1011927\/LAN_300_by_250_top_article --><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1473179053567-0\" class=\"ArticleAd1a\"><script>\ngoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1473179053567-0'); });\n<\/script><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Some say it&#8217;s because of pro-life legislation signed into law in Indiana by Vice President-elect Pence. This legislation, challenged in court by the ACLU and Planned Parenthood, would, says Live Action News&#8217; Calvin Freiburger, <a href=\"\/news\/planned-parenthood-seeks-block-indiana-ultrasound-requirement\/\">require<\/a> abortion facilities to &#8220;provide women with the opportunity to view an ultrasound of their child at least 18 hours prior to performing abortions,&#8221; <a href=\"\/news\/arguments-begin-in-lawsuit-over-indiana-pro-life-law\/\">among other things<\/a>. (The ACLU claims requiring an ultrasound could place a financial hardship on some facilities, as well as women &#8212; but the fact is that <a href=\"\/news\/planned-parenthood-ultrasound-except-using-find-fetal-organs\/\">ultrasounds are considered standard procedure before abortions<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>Many abortion supporters have recently chosen to donate to Planned Parenthood in Pence&#8217;s name. This is quite a leap\u00a0from the previous pro-abortion\u00a0response to\u00a0the pro-life state law, when abortion supporters started a &#8220;Periods for Pence&#8221; movement &#8212; which consisted of\u00a0calling the governor&#8217;s office to report their monthly menstrual periods. As Calvin Freiburger <a href=\"\/news\/absurd-periods-for-pence-launched-protest-indiana-abortion-law\/\">noted<\/a>, that particular campaign was evidence that &#8220;abortion fans\u00a0are so endlessly, stubbornly desperate to pretend they\u2019re sticking up for something other than murder that there is absolutely nothing too absurd for them to say in defense of that illusion.&#8221; It seems that this time, they&#8217;ve decided to spend their money not on phone calls but on directly funding abortions at Planned Parenthood.<\/p>\n<p>But again&#8230; was this response naturally spurred by the election of Trump and Pence? A tweet shared <a href=\"\/news\/if-donations-flooding-into-planned-parenthood-maybe-they-dont-need-tax-dollars\/\">here<\/a> makes it appear as if Planned Parenthood is encouraging donations in Pence&#8217;s name:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-156652\" src=\"\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Planned-Parenthood-tweets-donation-in-Pence-name.jpg\" alt=\"planned-parenthood-tweets-donation-in-pence-name\" width=\"590\" height=\"412\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Planned-Parenthood-tweets-donation-in-Pence-name.jpg 590w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Planned-Parenthood-tweets-donation-in-Pence-name-300x209.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Planned-Parenthood-tweets-donation-in-Pence-name-500x349.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 590px) 100vw, 590px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The tweet makes it hard to tell whether\u00a0Planned Parenthood is merely capitalizing on the Pence donations&#8230; or whether\u00a0they had a role in initiating\u00a0it.<\/p>\n<p>Today, Cheryl Sullenger, Operation Rescue&#8217;s senior vice president, wrote an\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.operationrescue.org\/archives\/last-night-i-got-a-call-from-planned-parenthood\/\">article<\/a> for Operation Rescue, describing\u00a0a phone call she received yesterday from a Planned Parenthood representative. The woman, who said she was calling from New York, urged Sullenger\u00a0to make a commitment to make a monthly financial commitment to support\u00a0Planned Parenthood. Sullenger says people have donated to the abortion giant before in her name, and that&#8217;s likely why she received an appeal for donations. She writes:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>She [the Planned Parenthood caller] described to me what a dangerous time we were facing. With Donald Trump as the President-elect, and both houses of Congress solidly in the hands of \u201canti-choice\u201d politicians, she insisted that we, as women, face losing our reproductive health care, our health insurance, and our birth control. She told me how the \u201canti-abortion\u201d folks aim to defund and close Planned Parenthood and end abortion.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Naturally, this caused Sullenger to question the sudden surge in donations to Planned Parenthood:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>As I hung up the phone, I recalled headlines of stories I had seen the past couple of days across the Internet discussing the \u201cspike in donations\u201d to Planned Parenthood. It occurred to me that this spike \u2013 like the Soros-funded staged protests of Trump\u2019s election \u2013 was not organic.<\/p>\n<p>It appears that this uptick in donations to Planned Parenthood is primarily the result of an aggressive, high-pressure, fear-based fundraising campaign that tries to scare the wits out of women so they will open their pocketbooks.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>But what&#8217;s so interesting about all this is that Planned Parenthood isn&#8217;t just\u00a0&#8220;scaring the wits out of women&#8221; for donations; the pro-abortion media is giving the organization free publicity by reporting on the donations, causing many other donors to jump on the bandwagon.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/news\/planned-parenthood-fears-end-taxpayer-funding-if-trump-elected\/\">This isn&#8217;t the first time<\/a> Planned Parenthood has contacted\u00a0supporters, stoking fears that if Planned Parenthood is defunded, somehow women won&#8217;t be able to get their birth control or healthcare anywhere else. But the\u00a0truth is that with <a href=\"\/news\/will-poor-women-go-health-care-defund-planned-parenthood-everywhere\/\">approximately 13,000 Federally Qualified Health Centers and community health centers<\/a> in this country &#8212; compared to Planned Parenthood&#8217;s approximately 650 facilities &#8212; women are <a href=\"\/news\/if-planned-parenthood-loses-funding-heres-a-map-of-health-clinics-that-could-take-its-place\/\">in no danger<\/a> of losing access\u00a0to real quality healthcare or birth control.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-75449\" src=\"\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/adf_pp_UScoverage_20150814_b-1-663x1024-453x700.jpg\" alt=\"adf_pp_UScoverage_20150814_b-1-663x1024\" width=\"453\" height=\"700\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/adf_pp_UScoverage_20150814_b-1-663x1024-453x700.jpg 453w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/adf_pp_UScoverage_20150814_b-1-663x1024-194x300.jpg 194w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/adf_pp_UScoverage_20150814_b-1-663x1024.jpg 663w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 453px) 100vw, 453px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Federally Qualified Health Centers and Community Health Centers offer the same services that Planned Parenthood offers\u00a0(minus abortion). But they also offer mammograms &#8212; something Planned Parenthood does not offer its patients, <a href=\"\/news\/mammosham-watch-the-viral-video-exposing-planned-parenthood-false-mammogram-claims\/\">despite CEO Cecile Richards&#8217; previous claims<\/a>.
