{"id":155423,"date":"2016-10-27T14:23:02","date_gmt":"2016-10-27T18:23:02","guid":{"rendered":"\/news\/?p=155423"},"modified":"2016-10-27T14:23:02","modified_gmt":"2016-10-27T18:23:02","slug":"comedian-samantha-bee-pretends-partial-birth-abortion-doesnt-exist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/comedian-samantha-bee-pretends-partial-birth-abortion-doesnt-exist\/","title":{"rendered":"Comedian Samantha Bee pretends partial-birth abortion &#8220;doesn&#8217;t exist&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>Lying to the public on behalf of lax abortion laws is a cottage industry, but\u00a0<a href=\"\/news\/samantha-bee-attempts-inane-abortion-humor-propaganda-yet\/\">Samantha Bee<\/a>, host of TBS\u2019s \u201cFull Frontal,\u201d delivers her <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/article\/441431\/samantha-bee-catholic-hospitals-dishonest-attack-religious-conscience\">falsehoods<\/a> with more\u00a0<a href=\"\/news\/samantha-bee-unhealthy-obsession-pro-life-movement\/\">smugness<\/a>\u00a0than most.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday night, she decided to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rawstory.com\/2016\/10\/samantha-bee-absolutely-destroys-dick-waving-trump-over-non-existent-partial-birth-abortion\/\">join the chorus of attacks<\/a> on Donald Trump\u2019s debate answer about partial-birth abortion, and to be expected, the only thing she successfully demonstrated is the arrested development of the pro-abortion mindset.<\/p>\n<p>Bee opens the abortion part of the segment with some unoriginal\u00a0snark, saying, \u201cIf you were hoping to hear old men talk about vaginas some more, hey! It\u2019s your lucky night!\u201d Weird fixation on whether people are old or male aside, it sure would be nice if just once, Bee had to explain why she and her fellow abortion fans\u00a0instinctively pretend conversations about preborn babies are conversations \u201cabout vaginas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If I didn\u2019t know any better, I\u2019d say that almost sounds like a subconscious admission they\u2019re uncomfortable discussing the actual subject\u2026<\/p>\n<div class=\"ArticleAd1\"><!-- \/1011927\/LAN_300_by_250_top_article --><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1473179053567-0\" class=\"ArticleAd1a\"><script>\ngoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1473179053567-0'); });\n<\/script><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>After a clip of moderator Chris Wallace asking Hillary Clinton about her position on partial-birth abortion, Bee grabs a megaphone and announces, \u201cPARTIAL BIRTH ABORTIONS AREN\u2019T A THING,\u201d with that message emblazoned in all caps on no less than three screens behind her for emphasis. (Because everyone knows that if you say something loudly and in all caps, that makes it automatically true!) She says partial-birth abortion doesn&#8217;t exist because&#8230; well, that&#8217;s not really the <em>medical\u00a0name<\/em> for that kind of abortion &#8212; and because she thinks that type of abortion was already\u00a0outlawed in every state. Wrong on both counts:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>It\u2019s a non-medical term the National Right to Life Committee made up in the 90s for a procedure that was outlawed in 2003 by the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act, seen here being signed by George W. Bush, along with some of Congress\u2019s leading women\u2019s health experts [the \u201cjoke\u201d being that everyone in the picture is a male Republican, as if &#8211; CF].<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Sorry, Samantha, but partial-birth abortions certainly are \u201ca thing.\u201d Regardless of who coined the term, it does <a href=\"\/news\/thinkprogress-says-dismemberment-abortion-is-misleading-but-is-it\/\">accurately describe<\/a> the Intact Dilation &amp; Extraction abortion procedure, which abortionist Warren Hern and the National Abortion Federation <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abort73.com\/abortion\/abortion_techniques\/\">both explain<\/a> as consisting of partial delivery (a.k.a. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.merriam-webster.com\/dictionary\/birth\">birthing<\/a>) of babies before killing them.<\/p>\n<p>And despite the passage of a federal ban, they&#8217;re still legal in some states, as\u00a0Live Action News&#8217; Kristi Burton Brown <a href=\"\/news\/late-term-abortion-needs-to-end-in-america\/\">explains<\/a>:\u00a0&#8220;&#8230; [E]ven though federal law bans most partial-birth abortions (PBA),\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/state-policy\/explore\/bans-specific-abortion-methods-used-after-first-trimester\">only 19 states<\/a>\u00a0have actually banned the procedure themselves. The federal law bans PBA when it is committed on federal property \u2013 such as military bases \u2013 or when it involves\u00a0interstate commerce.&#8221; What this means is that &#8220;partial-birth abortions could shockingly still be performed in the other 31 states under certain circumstances&#8221; and three of the states that ban it only do so &#8220;post-viability.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Samantha Bee also claimed, &#8220;Chris Wallace conflated partial-birth abortion, which doesn\u2019t exist, with late-term abortion, which does.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Not at all. Clinton expressly supports both procedures; she <a href=\"https:\/\/www.govtrack.us\/congress\/votes\/108-2003\/s51\">voted against the 2003 ban<\/a> on partial-birth abortion, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.presidency.ucsb.edu\/ws\/?pid=93056\">reiterated her stance<\/a> when the Supreme Court upheld the ban in 2007. Last year, she called the late-term abortion ban (20 weeks)\u2014which contained rape and life-of-the-mother exceptions\u2014 \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.weeklystandard.com\/hillary-clinton-calls-law-protecting-lives-of-viable-infants-extreme-and-unacceptable\/article\/995623\">extreme and unacceptable<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Only 1.3 percent of abortions take place at or after 21 weeks, and guess what? It\u2019s not because women are selfish sluts who wake up in their third trimester and decide, \u201cnot into this; I want a procrast-abortion!\u201d It\u2019s usually because the tests done at that point reveal a fatal birth defect or serious risk to the mother\u2019s life.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Bee\u2019s source for this claim must be \u201c<a href=\"\/news\/samantha-bee-attempts-inane-abortion-humor-propaganda-yet\/\">the authority of one who has a uterus<\/a>,\u201d because she sure didn\u2019t get it from hard evidence. Last year, FactCheck.org <a href=\"http:\/\/www.factcheck.org\/2015\/09\/clinton-off-on-late-term-abortions\/\">concluded<\/a>, \u201cthere is no definitive information as to how many of those abortions are due to medical necessity,\u201d and last week I <a href=\"\/news\/washington-post-gets-fact-check-on-trumps-9-month-abortion-answer-wrong\/\">showed you<\/a> there is <em>anecdotal<\/em> evidence\u2014from D&amp;X (partial-birth) abortion creator Martin Haskell and late-term abortionist George Tiller\u2019s own words\u2014that only one in five, <em>or fewer<\/em>, late-term abortions are done for complications to either mother or child\u2019s health.<\/p>\n<p>But even if Bee was telling the truth, this would be nothing more than padding out a paper-thin case, because neither Wallace nor Trump suggested anything about how rare late-term abortions are or why they\u2019re sought\u2026and while 1.3% may be \u201crare\u201d in the relative sense, it doesn\u2019t mean \u201cfew\u201d\u2014we\u2019re still talking about <a href=\"\/news\/yes-there-is-such-a-thing-as-abortion-in-the-ninth-month\/\">13,000 children killed<\/a> per year. Former abortionist Anthony Levatino describes a late-term induction abortion below:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/r5Af8vIym2o\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Next, Bee sneers that Trump\u2019s language about \u201crip[ping] the baby out of the womb\u201d sounds \u201ca lot like Trump has confused abortions with bear attacks,\u201d and that \u201cDonald may not understand how abortion works.\u201d Tough talk from someone falsely claiming partial-birth abortion \u201cdoesn\u2019t exist\u201d when simply describing a D&amp;X abortion would confirm that\u2019s exactly what it is.<\/p>\n<p>Bee\u2019s closing statement gives a \u201chell yes\u201d to Clinton\u2019s <a href=\"\/news\/daily-beast-writer-falsely-asserts-clinton-doesnt-support-partial-birth-abortion\/\">insincere<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/liveaction.org\/press\/u-s-law-allows-abortion-at-nine-months-and-most-late-term-abortions-arent-done-for-medical-reasons\/\">inaccurate<\/a> posturing that slaughtering children is a matter of women\u2019s \u201cpersonal health decisions,\u201d then makes a suggestion to men (gotta love the <a href=\"\/news\/pro-aborts-love-women-so-much-they-pretend-not-to-see-them-when-theyre-pro-life\/\">sexist assumption<\/a> that women must already agree with her):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Men, if you don\u2019t get why it\u2019s important to have a woman as a major party nominee, check your social media feed, actually, log in as your wife. You\u2019ll see that all week, women have been sharing deeply personal stories of pregnancies that went wrong.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>One can\u2019t help but wonder how Bee would try to change the subject to candidates\u2019 chromosomes if, say, <a href=\"\/news\/why-planned-parenthood-is-terrified-of-carly-fiorina\/\">Carly Fiorina<\/a> had been on stage hitting Hillary with the exact same message, but I digress\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Bee flashes the headlines of several \u201cdeeply personal stories\u201d on screen\u2026<a href=\"\/news\/viral-late-term-abortion-story-really-story-premature-delivery\/\">two<\/a> of <a href=\"\/news\/yes-there-is-such-a-thing-as-abortion-in-the-ninth-month\/\">which<\/a> Live Action News has specifically addressed; one wasn\u2019t even an abortion, while the other failed to explain \u201chow a 32-weeker in utero wouldn\u2019t feel pain, while a born one of the same age would.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/xojane-\/this-is-what-its-really-like-to-have-a-late-term-abortion_b_8264562.html\">third<\/a> doesn\u2019t specify the complication beyond that doctors \u201ckept saying\u201d her baby \u201cwould not be anywhere near okay,\u201d but quotes one doctor as saying \u201cthere is always a chance\u201d her baby could be healthy\u2026 and doesn\u2019t explain why giving the little girl that chance wasn\u2019t worth it.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ArticleAd2\"><!-- \/1011927\/LAN_300_BY_250_mid_article --><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1473179101244-0\" class=\"ArticleAd2a\"><script>\ngoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1473179101244-0'); });\n<\/script><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The profanity-laden <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@cecilyk\/fuck-you-trump-my-baby-was-ripped-out-of-my-womb-because-i-was-going-to-die-2f9799f52db7#.r0n4a7s6n\">fourth<\/a> story is a heartbreaking account of losing a wanted child to a near-fatal case of preeclampsia\u2026 but again, the \u201ctermination\u201d in this case sounds like a <a href=\"\/news\/is-abortion-necessary-for-the-life-and-health-of-the-mother\/\">delivery rather than an abortion<\/a>, and claims:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Donald, what you described last night literally never happens. EVER. Nope, not once. Not ever. In EVERY SINGLE CASE of pregnancy termination done in the final trimester of pregnancy it is because the mom is dying or the baby\u2019s condition is incompatible with life.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The author describes this <a href=\"\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/content-before-birth-e1476993864331-450x270.jpg\">blatant falsehood<\/a> as \u201cmotherf***ing reality.\u201d So yes, Samantha, please tell us more about the unimpeachable authority of \u201cdeeply personal stories.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To say nothing of the <a href=\"\/news\/late-term-abortionists-turn-out-to-be-not-such-a-good-bunch\/\">fact<\/a> that <a href=\"\/news\/woman-sues-late-term-abortionist-after-nearly-dying-from-procedure\/\">many<\/a> women\u2019s <a href=\"\/news\/theres-nothing-heroic-or-kind-about-late-term-abortion\/\">experiences<\/a> with <a href=\"\/news\/former-late-term-abortion-worker-we-aborted-mostly-healthy-babies\/\">late-term abortion<\/a> turn out <a href=\"http:\/\/www.silentnomoreawareness.org\/testimonies\/index.aspx\">very different<\/a>\u2026<\/p>\n<p>The truth is that Samantha Bee and the rest of the abortion lobby\u2019s pop-culture foot soldiers can\u2019t find vindication from the realms of science, argument, emotion, <em>or<\/em> personal stories.<\/p>\n<p>Behind the veneer of condescension and sarcasm, they have nothing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lying to the public on behalf of lax abortion laws is a cottage industry, but\u00a0Samantha Bee, host of TBS\u2019s \u201cFull Frontal,\u201d delivers her falsehoods with more\u00a0smugness\u00a0than most.
