The law &#8220;forbids any Medicaid reimbursements to any entity that performs or is otherwise involved with abortions,&#8221; as <a href=\"\/news\/mississippi-defunds-planned-parenthood\/\">Calvin Freiburger explained<\/a> for Live Action News\u00a0when the bill was passed.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, however, U.S. District Judge Daniel Jordan III\u00a0sided with Planned Parenthood Southeast and Planned Parenthood Greater Memphis in their lawsuit, claiming that the Mississippi law\u00a0violates federal law. In its report on the ruling,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-mississippi-plannedparenthood-idUSKCN12L0EB\">Reuters<\/a>\u00a0referred to the nation&#8217;s largest abortion provider as a &#8220;women&#8217;s health provider.&#8221; A new Live Action investigative video exposes the facts behind\u00a0abortion and women&#8217;s health services at Planned Parenthood:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qtgqxvaV-8U\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Governor Bryant <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/im4phil\/\">expressed disappointment<\/a> about the ruling on Facebook:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I&#8217;m sorry to report that a federal judge has blocked a law that would have prevented your tax dollars from going to Planned Parenthood. I believe the law was the right thing to do and I will continue to stand with the Legislature and people of Mississippi who do not want their hard-earned money going to the largest abortion provider in the nation.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"ArticleAd2\">\n<p><!-- \/1011927\/LAN_300_BY_250_mid_article --><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1473179101244-0\" class=\"ArticleAd2a\"><script>\ngoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1473179101244-0'); });\n<\/script><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Planned Parenthood\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthoodaction.org\/blog\/court-protects-mississippians-access-care-planned-parenthood\/\">lauded the ruling<\/a>, noting that &#8220;the\u00a0court protected Planned Parenthood patients&#8217; access to birth control, lifesaving cancer screenings, and other preventive care.&#8221; Planned Parenthood continued:\u00a0&#8220;The ruling sided with the people who rely on Planned Parenthood for basic care every day.&#8221; Such sentiments were reflected by\u00a0<span id=\"m_-1099887495650267032m_720638781174456104docs-internal-guid-fea48224-e3aa-ea47-b863-8389824313b1\">Staci Fox,\u00a0Planned Parenthood Southeast President and CEO, in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthoodaction.org\/blog\/court-protects-mississippians-access-care-planned-parenthood\/\">her statement<\/a>:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Everyone deserves access to high-quality health care, no matter who you are or where you live.\u00a0While legislators play politics with women\u2019s health, we will continue to stand by Mississippi women and families who depend on our services\u00a0for birth control, cancer screenings, STD tests and other lifesaving care.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Ashley B. Coffield,\u00a0Planned Parenthood Greater Memphis Region President and CEO, noted that &#8220;[t]he courts just confirmed that\u00a0no politician can tell Mississippians where they can or cannot go for care.\u00a0We will continue to fight for our patient\u2019s [sic] right to access health care at the provider of their choice.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Despite abortion making up a considerable part of Planned Parenthood&#8217;s services, the abortion chain\u00a0downplays this and focuses\u00a0on the other services they provide, such as cancer screenings. However, the truth, is that\u00a0Planned Parenthood performs<a href=\"\/news\/new-video-debunks-planned-parenthoods-3-percent-abortion-myth\/\">\u00a0just 0.97 percent (less than 1 percent) of Pap smears and 1.8 percent of clinical\u00a0breast exams<\/a>, which are\u00a0<em>not <\/em>mammograms.<em>\u00a0<\/em>(Planned Parenthood <a href=\"\/news\/mammosham-watch-the-viral-video-exposing-planned-parenthood-false-mammogram-claims\/\">does not provide mammograms<\/a>.)<em>\u00a0<\/em>These <a href=\"\/news\/planned-parenthood-health-care-services-declined-in-2014-while-taxpayer-funding-increased\/\">legitimate services have decreased while taxpayer funding and abortion have increased<\/a>, according to Planned Parenthood&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/files\/2114\/5089\/0863\/2014-2015_PPFA_Annual_Report_.pdf\">own annual reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In May,\u00a0Republican Mississippi Governor Phil Bryan signed a bill into law defunding Planned Parenthood.
