{"id":14219,"date":"2012-04-05T09:54:13","date_gmt":"2012-04-05T13:54:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.www.liveactionnews.org\/?p=14219"},"modified":"2013-04-03T01:32:46","modified_gmt":"2013-04-03T05:32:46","slug":"murder-whats-not-to-love","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/murder-whats-not-to-love\/","title":{"rendered":"Murder:  what&#8217;s not to love?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.www.liveactionnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/dreamstimefree_195686.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-14358\" style=\"margin: 15px;\" title=\"baby\" src=\"http:\/\/www.www.liveactionnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/dreamstimefree_195686-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/dreamstimefree_195686-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/dreamstimefree_195686-1024x682.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Most of us have seen our parents or grandparents shake their heads and say, \u201cWhat\u2019s the world coming to?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The more I read about pro-choice advocates, the more I am unnerved by the direction the world is careening toward.<\/p>\n<p>Recently I came across a blog of nauseating content. \u00a0Activist Jessica DelBalzo takes \u201cpro-choice&#8221; to an entirely different level of passionate support.\u00a0It is no longer enough to just \u201cgrant abortion\u201d or to allow it to exist as a necessary evil, but now DelBalzo insists that women must fully embrace abortion, and joyfully celebrate what it is.<\/p>\n<p>She titles her <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rhrealitycheck.org\/article\/2012\/03\/14\/choice-words-about-abortion-0\">blog<\/a> post &#8220;I Love Abortion: Implying Otherwise Accomplishes Nothing for Women\u2019s Rights.\u201d Unable to understand why people half-heartedly rally behind abortion, she writes that saying abortion should be rare \u201cimplies a value judgement, promoting the idea that <em>abortion is somehow distasteful or immoral and should be avoided.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>You hit the nail on the head, Honey.<\/p>\n<p>DelBalzo testifies from her own experience the joy and liberation she felt in her abortion. She writes that she will encourage her children to regard abortion in a welcoming and positive light. DelBalzo condemns America as being filled with anti-feminism and with religious conservatism that shames women\u2019s sexuality, and \u00a0insists that <strong>abortion will always be not only normal, but also a perfectly acceptable and reasonable choice for women<\/strong>. Finally, DelBalzo concludes that \u201cwomen who value their freedom should be proud to say that they like abortion. In fact, they should venerate it whole-heartedly. <strong>Abortion is our last refuge<\/strong>, the one final, definitive instrument that secures our bodily autonomy. <strong><em>What&#8217;s not to love<\/em><\/strong>?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Yikes.<\/p>\n<p>So. <em>Love<\/em> abortion, in the name of celebrating women\u2019s rights?<\/p>\n<p>I find it contradictory that when one does this, there is zero consideration for the emotional scarring and physical risk and danger a woman goes through during an abortion.<\/p>\n<p>The BBC recently highlighted <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/1\/hi\/health\/4520576.stm\">a study performed <\/a>by the University of Oslo, which observed the psychological ramifications of women who had abortions. Norway, a country in which <a href=\"http:\/\/www.internationalmidwives.org\/Portals\/5\/Sharing%20Responsibility,%20Women,%20Society%20and%20Abortion%20Worldwide.pdf\">20% of pregnancies<\/a> result in\u00a0abortion, gathered a testing pool of 40 women who had had a miscarriage, compared \u00a0with 80 who chose to have an abortion.<\/p>\n<p>The team at Oslo found that &#8220;after 10 days, 47.5% of women who had miscarried suffered from some degree of mental distress compared with 30% of the abortion group. \u00a0The proportion of women who had a miscarriage suffering distress decreased during the study period, to 22.5% at six months and to just 2.6% at two years and five years.&#8221; The initial \u00a0&#8220;relief&#8221; of women who&#8217;d had abortions resulted in less of a psychological strain than those who had lost their baby due to natural causes.<\/p>\n<p>However, the Oslo study found, upon continued observation, that &#8220;among the abortion group 25.7% were still experiencing distress after six months, and 20% at five years.&#8221; \u00a0 The long-standing psychological scarring stayed relatively high, sustained over several \u00a0years.<\/p>\n<p>Such statistics give strong evidence for the psychologically harmful effects for a woman who has had an\u00a0abortion.\u00a0 If the results of this study come from a country where abortions are more socially acceptable, and certainly more common, imagine the increased sense of guilt and distress for women in the USA, where there is a prominent pro-life presence.<\/p>\n<p>Because of the current social climate, it is very likely therefore, that American women would struggle even more intensely with remorse, anxiety and depression. \u00a0 A true feminist would have all of a women\u2019s wellness at the heart of her concern. But DelBalzo&#8217;s position entirely disregards a woman\u2019s psychological well-being in a thoroughly marring process. Let\u2019s not even mention how &#8220;loving abortion&#8221; also readily discounts the value of unborn female (and male) babies\u2019 lives. How does that accomplish anything for human rights?<\/p>\n<p>What is the world coming to\u2026when convenience and sexual \u201cliberation\u201d dictate morality?<\/p>\n<p>Last week \u00a0I rocked a 9-week-old baby to sleep, and I thought about how a little more than 2 months before, it would have been completely permissible in some places to kill this child in a partial-birth abortion. That sickened me. That perfect little soul asleep in my arms would have been helpless against such violence. All in the name of convenience, and celebrating women\u2019s rights.<\/p>\n<p>Murder.
