At this week’s presidential debate, the final debate of the election, abortion became the hot-button issue after Donald Trump talked about late-term and partial-birth abortion (full transcript here<\/a>). Hillary Clinton acknowledged that she voted against a federal\u00a0partial-birth abortion ban, explaining, \u201cRoe v. Wade<\/em> very clearly sets out that there can be regulations on abortion so long as the life and the health of the mother are taken into account. And when I voted as a senator, I did not think that that was the case.\u201d Trump responded by denouncing\u00a0these late-term abortions.<\/p>\n

Well, I think it\u2019s terrible. If you go with what Hillary is saying, in the ninth month, you can take the baby and rip the baby out of the womb of the mother just prior to the birth of the baby.<\/p>\n

Now, you can say that that\u2019s OK and Hillary can say that that\u2019s OK. But it\u2019s not OK with me, because based on what she\u2019s saying, and based on where she\u2019s going, and where she\u2019s been, you can take the baby and rip the baby out of the womb in the ninth month on the final day. And that\u2019s not acceptable.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The pro-abortion media immediately seized the chance to condemn his statement. Vox offered a “fact-check” that had no basis in reality<\/a>, saying that abortions don’t take place in the ninth month of pregnancy. The Washington Post’s fact-checker, Glenn Kessler, likewise denied that late-term abortions take place<\/a>. The reality, of course, is that seven states allow abortion up until the final day of pregnancy<\/a>. The United States is one of only four countries<\/a> to allow abortion up until birth for any reason. Most of these abortions are performed on healthy babies<\/a> — not because the mother’s health is at risk, or because the baby has been diagnosed with an abnormality, birth defect, or disability.<\/p>\n

Strangely, while some pro-abortion activists rushed to deny that these late-term abortions happen, others came forward to talk about their examples. Despite the fact that, as previously stated, most late-term abortions are performed on healthy babies, most of these women talked about how they underwent a second- or third-trimester abortion after receiving a prenatal diagnosis of a disability or birth defect.<\/p>\n
