Third trimester abortion is alive and well in the United States, ensuring that thousands of\u00a0viable babies are killed\u00a0every year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/r5Af8vIym2o\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>While many states have laws restricting abortion past a certain point (often 20 weeks), there are still plenty of places to kill a baby at the last minute &#8212; and abortionists\u00a0willing to make it happen for the right price. Operation Rescue <a href=\"http:\/\/www.operationrescue.org\/archives\/five-places-where-you-can-get-a-9th-month-abortion-now\/\">recently reported on abortionists coast-to-coast<\/a>\u00a0who are willing to perform these late term procedures.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-89477 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.liveactionnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Third-Trimester-induction-diagram-6-panel-700x394.png\" alt=\"Third Trimester induction diagram 6 panel\" width=\"700\" height=\"394\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Third-Trimester-induction-diagram-6-panel-700x394.png 700w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Third-Trimester-induction-diagram-6-panel-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Third-Trimester-induction-diagram-6-panel-768x432.png 768w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Third-Trimester-induction-diagram-6-panel.png 1918w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Finding them\u00a0requires little more than a Google search. Colorado abortionist\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.drhern.com\/\">Warren Hern<\/a>, who will abort a baby in the ninth month, isn&#8217;t shy about what he offers. His website\u00a0discusses\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.drhern.com\/en\/abortion-services\/third-trimester-abortion.html\">third trimester abortions<\/a>, claiming women who obtain them &#8220;are almost always seeking services for termination of a desired pregnancy that has developed serious complications.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>According to other late-term abortionists, like Susan Robinson, <a href=\"\/news\/third-trimester-abortion-in-america\/\">this is not true<\/a>. Even infamous late-term\u00a0abortionist George Tiller, now deceased, admitted that <a href=\"\/news\/washington-post-gets-fact-check-on-trumps-9-month-abortion-answer-wrong\/\">less than 10 percent<\/a> of\u00a0the abortions he performed late in pregnancy were for fetal anomaly.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ArticleAd1\">\n<p><!-- \/1011927\/LAN_300_by_250_top_article --><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1473179053567-0\" class=\"ArticleAd1a\"><script>\ngoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1473179053567-0'); });\n<\/script><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Hern knows late-term abortion is dangerous for women, noting on his website,\u00a0&#8220;At this point, termination of pregnancy is considered a far more dangerous procedure and carries with it serious risks of complication.&#8221; But the\u00a0dangers\u00a0don&#8217;t\u00a0deter him. He&#8217;s willing to abort viable babies, and he offers the arrangement of burial or religious services to parents who see their children as real &#8220;babies.&#8221;\u00a0On his website, we also see the\u00a0pro-abortion mentality\u00a0that\u00a0those who are not developmentally perfect won&#8217;t have lives\u00a0worth living. The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.drhern.com\/en\/abortion-services\/fetal-anomalies.html\">fetal anomaly section says<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>One of the most tragic things that can happen to a woman and her loved ones, especially if it is her first baby, is to discover late in a desired pregnancy that something has gone terribly wrong&#8230;.\u00a0In spite of everything, nothing can be done to give the baby a chance for a normal life &#8212; perhaps not even a chance for life itself.<\/p>\n<p>There are generally two kinds of problems with pregnancies like this. One kind involves the observation or discovery of a genetic disorder that predictably would lead to very serious problems for a young child&#8230; like Trisomy 21 (Down Syndrome), Trisomy 18 and 13&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/news\/girl-syndrome-shines-tj-maxx-commercial\/screenshot-2016-06-14-15-00-07\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-96133\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-96133\" src=\"https:\/\/www.liveactionnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Screenshot-2016-06-14-15.00.07-700x394.png\" alt=\"Lily in a screenshot from her TJ Maxx ad.\" width=\"364\" height=\"205\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Screenshot-2016-06-14-15.00.07-700x394.png 700w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Screenshot-2016-06-14-15.00.07-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Screenshot-2016-06-14-15.00.07-768x432.png 768w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Screenshot-2016-06-14-15.00.07.png 1600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 364px) 100vw, 364px\" \/><\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Down syndrome\u00a0is presented\u00a0as a problem so awful no parent or child should have to endure it. Clearly, many disagree. <a href=\"\/news\/dad-letter-daughter-down-syndrome-wedding-day-viral\/\">Ryan and Jillian, both of whom\u00a0have Down syndrome<\/a>\u00a0and just got married this year, might have a few words to say to Dr. Hern. So might <a href=\"\/news\/girl-syndrome-shines-tj-maxx-commercial\/\">Lily, the star of a TJ Maxx commercial<\/a>.\u00a0And then <a href=\"\/news\/conceived-rape-down-syndrome-carter-proves-life-is-worth-living\/\">there&#8217;s Carter,<\/a>\u00a0conceived in rape, whose\u00a0mom found out she was pregnant when she went in for a hysterectomy for uterine cancer. She\u00a0refused to abort, despite the double odds against Carter &#8212; who\u00a0might\u00a0have some things to say to Dr. Hern as well.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/news\/dad-letter-daughter-down-syndrome-wedding-day-viral\/daughter-down-syndrome\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-92670\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-92670 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.liveactionnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/daughter-Down-Syndrome-453x700.jpg\" alt=\"From Facebook\" width=\"203\" height=\"313\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/daughter-Down-Syndrome-453x700.jpg 453w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/daughter-Down-Syndrome-194x300.jpg 194w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/daughter-Down-Syndrome.jpg 621w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 203px) 100vw, 203px\" \/><\/a>Live Action President <a href=\"http:\/\/liveaction.org\/press\/u-s-law-allows-abortion-at-nine-months-and-most-late-term-abortions-arent-done-for-medical-reasons\/\">Lila Rose said<\/a>\u00a0of\u00a0the late-term abortion controversy:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Contrary to the claims of the abortion industry and its allies, the evidence shows that most late-term abortions aren\u2019t done for any claimed \u2018medical\u2019 reasons.<\/p>\n<p>Even <a href=\"http:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/10.1363\/4521013\/abstract\">r<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/10.1363\/4521013\/abstract\" target=\"_blank\">esearch<\/a> published by the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute found that abortions for fetal abnormalities \u2018make up a small minority\u2019 of late-term abortions, and those that are purported to be done to save the mother\u2019s life are an even smaller number.<\/p>\n<p>More than 1,000 medical professionals <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dublindeclaration.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">have concluded<\/a> that <u>abortion is never medically necessary to save a mother\u2019s life.<\/u>\u00a0While life-saving treatment for a mother may result in the death of her preborn child, there\u2019s a fundamental difference between a woman receiving medical treatment for her condition versus choosing an abortion to directly kill her preborn child.<\/p>\n<p>What likely comes as a surprise to most Americans is that partial-birth abortions have been banned in name only. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gpo.gov\/fdsys\/pkg\/PLAW-108publ105\/html\/PLAW-108publ105.htm\" target=\"_blank\">federal law<\/a> banning partial-birth abortions still allows for the abortionist to partially deliver a child \u2014 with her legs dangling outside of her mother or most of her head being delivered \u2014 before he kills her. Anyone can clearly see that the child is only seconds away from being born and having legal protections if it weren\u2019t for the abortionist waiting to kill her as she moves through the birth canal.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Abby Johnson, a former Planned Parenthood director, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/abbyjohnsonprolife\/posts\/1330729393603797\">addressed<\/a> late-term abortion on her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/abbyjohnsonprolife\/posts\/1330729393603797\">Facebook<\/a>\u00a0page:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>According to several former late term abortion clinic workers who have come through ATTWN, approximately 50% of 3rd trimester abortions are performed on healthy babies. In my own personal experience, we often referred women to late term providers who were pregnant with healthy babies&#8230; they wanted the abortion because they had just broken up with the baby&#8217;s father, or because they lost their job or something similar.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Some women have gone on record with their stories of late-term abortions. This summer,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/jezebel.com\/interview-with-a-woman-who-recently-had-an-abortion-at-1781972395\">Elizabeth told Jezebel her story<\/a>\u00a0of Dr. Hern aborting her 32-week-old baby. After being told of abnormalities that showed up later in her pregnancy, Elizabeth and her husband decided to have a late-term abortion:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>What I came to accept was the fact that I would never get to be this little guy\u2019s mother\u2014that if we came to term, he would likely live a very short time until he choked and died, if he even made it that far. This was a no-go for me. I couldn\u2019t put him through that suffering when we had the option to minimize his pain as much as possible.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>What isn&#8217;t clear is why\u00a0she believes\u00a0a viable baby would not suffer from being aborted. But she got\u00a0some reassurance from Dr. Hern that her baby&#8217;s pain\u00a0was just &#8220;reflexes&#8221;:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>So they took me into the room, and there were two nurses in there with Dr. Hern&#8230;. I asked him if he thought the baby would feel the shot, and he said no. I mentioned an article I\u2019d read about tests where they prick a baby in utero, and the baby jumps. I asked him, \u201cDoesn\u2019t that mean that the baby can feel pain?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cNo. If you prick a frog, it jumps because it has reflexes. A fetus does have reflexes, but doesn\u2019t mean that they can feel and contemplate pain.\u201d He told me that whatever that fetus feels is not like the pain they would feel on the outside.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s real pain,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd whatever he might feel, it doesn\u2019t touch the pain you are feeling as a grown, thinking, feeling woman.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>No explanation from Hern on how a 32-weeker in utero\u00a0<em>wouldn&#8217;t<\/em> feel pain, while a born one of the same age\u00a0<em>would<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Elizabeth\u00a0describes the shot used to\u00a0kill the baby by stopping his heartbeat, a process which she says took about an hour-and-a-half, followed by a drug to stop her from going into labor so she could fly back to New York and deliver. &#8220;It was a delivery,&#8221; she says. &#8220;I felt every body part coming out. I felt the whole thing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Hern&#8217;s\u00a0Colorado facility was also the setting for Kate&#8217;s <em>36-week<\/em> abortion. Kate <a href=\"http:\/\/endingawantedpregnancy.com\/dandy-walker-third-trimester-abortion\/\">told\u00a0her story<\/a> to OBs and medical students,\u00a0stating that\u00a0there were possible problems with her baby, some potentially severe. While there was no clear diagnosis, her neurologist said the\u00a0baby <em>might<\/em> be so uncomfortable she could not even sleep. Kate flew\u00a0to Dr. Hern&#8217;s facility for\u00a0an abortion. She describes a story similar to\u00a0Elizabeth&#8217;s.\u00a0There was an injection to stop her daughter&#8217;s heartbeat, but Kate delivered\u00a0at the facility. She describes the labor process and Hern telling her to stop pushing. &#8220;And my baby\u00a0slipped through my pelvis and into the skilled and careful arms of my grumpy savior,&#8221; she says.<\/p>\n<p>Most would not choose the term &#8220;savior&#8221; for a man who puts\u00a0viable babies\u00a0to death. Yet, his actions are legal in Colorado where he practices.<\/p>\n<p>Abortionists like\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.operationrescue.org\/archives\/five-places-where-you-can-get-a-9th-month-abortion-now\/\">those listed in Operation Rescue&#8217;s piece<\/a> make a living from\u00a0aborting viable babies, some in the ninth month. <a href=\"http:\/\/liveaction.org\/press\/u-s-law-allows-abortion-at-nine-months-and-most-late-term-abortions-arent-done-for-medical-reasons\/\">Live Action notes<\/a>, &#8220;<span id=\"m_6808914434261019786m_2003009109732171096gmail-docs-internal-guid-2f3ea0e2-e54e-be0c-8041-a7593a34ebfa\">While some states have restrictions, all states allow abortion into the ninth month for certain exceptions, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/state-policy\/explore\/overview-abortion-laws\" target=\"_blank\">seven states and the District of Columbia<\/a> allow abortion until birth for any reason (Alaska, Colorado, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, Vermont, and Washington, D.C.).&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Out of about one million aborted babies a year, an estimated 13,000 are late-term\u00a0&#8212;\u00a0viable babies who could have survived outside the womb. As <a href=\"http:\/\/liveaction.org\/press\/u-s-law-allows-abortion-at-nine-months-and-most-late-term-abortions-arent-done-for-medical-reasons\/\">Live Action News reports<\/a>, many babies are viable even before the third trimester:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A May\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nejm.org\/doi\/full\/10.1056\/NEJMoa1410689\">2015 medical study<\/a>, published in the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nejm.org\/doi\/full\/10.1056\/NEJMoa1410689\">New England Journal of Medicine<\/a>\u00a0reports that roughly 25% of babies born at 22 weeks gestation would survive if &#8220;actively treated in a hospital.&#8221; Even without extra treatment, a small number of these babies survive. A September\u00a0<a href=\"\/news\/premature-babies-surviving-23-weeks-new-study-finds\/\">2015 study,<\/a>\u00a0published in the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/jama.jamanetwork.com\/article.aspx?articleid=2434683\">Journal of the American Medical Association<\/a>\u00a0reported that survival rates for babies at 23 weeks gestation has improved to 33%; at 24 weeks, the survival rate is 65%.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After the end of the final presidential debate this week,\u00a0social media and news outlets clamored to present their sides on late-term abortion.
