{"id":128956,"date":"2016-10-21T14:52:07","date_gmt":"2016-10-21T18:52:07","guid":{"rendered":"\/news\/?p=128956"},"modified":"2016-10-21T14:52:07","modified_gmt":"2016-10-21T18:52:07","slug":"oreilly-is-right-no-moral-authority-protect-preborn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/oreilly-is-right-no-moral-authority-protect-preborn\/","title":{"rendered":"O&#8217;Reilly is right: We have no moral authority if we don&#8217;t protect the preborn"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>Fox News Channel host Bill O&#8217;Reilly of <em>The O&#8217;Reilly Factor <\/em>addressed Democratic nominee <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/the-fix\/wp\/2016\/10\/19\/the-final-trump-clinton-debate-transcript-annotated\/\">Hillary Clinton&#8217;s stance in favor of late-term abortion<\/a> from Wednesday night&#8217;s debate.<\/p>\n<p>In his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billoreilly.com\/b\/The-Third-and-Last-Debate\/229530127411700.html?utm_source=newsletter&#038;utm_medium=email&#038;utm_campaign=TPM_Transcript\">Talking Points Memo<\/a> to open the program, he mentioned:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Now, it&#8217;s somewhat\u00a0shocking and I mean that,\u00a0shocking, that Hillary Clinton would support late-term, partial-birth abortion\u00a0citing the health of the\u00a0mother.\u00a0As we saw in Kansas and in\u00a0Pennsylvania, the health of\u00a0the mother could be\u00a0anything.\u00a0There are corrupt doctors\u00a0who will abort for money on\u00a0the most flimsy of physical\u00a0excuses.\u00a0In a humane country, the\u00a0unborn must be protected to\u00a0some extent by the\u00a0government.\u00a0Otherwise, we don&#8217;t have any\u00a0moral authority on anything.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><center><script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/video.foxnews.com\/v\/embed.js?id=5179174495001&#038;w=640&#038;h=350\"><\/script><noscript>Watch the latest video at <a href=\"http:\/\/video.foxnews.com\">video.foxnews.com<\/a><\/noscript><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Media Matters for America, which also published articles claiming that &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/mediamatters.org\/blog\/2016\/10\/19\/chris-wallace-let-trump-push-right-wing-media-myth-partial-birth-abortion\/213950\">Chris Wallace Let Trump Push the Right-Wing Media Myth of &#8220;Partial Birth&#8221; Abortion<\/a>&#8221; and &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/mediamatters.org\/research\/2016\/10\/12\/right-wing-media-keep-pushing-myth-partial-birth-abortion\/213789\">Right-Wing Media Keep Pushing Myth of &#8220;Partial-Birth&#8221; Abortion<\/a>,&#8221;\u00a0posted a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mediamatters.org\/video\/2016\/10\/20\/bill-oreilly-unborn-must-be-protected-corrupt-doctors-who-will-abort-money\/214022\">clip<\/a> of O&#8217;Reilly&#8217;s statements.<\/p>\n<p>While Media Matters has mocked those who acknowledge the reality of\u00a0partial-birth abortion, the facts back up O&#8217;Reilly&#8217;s points. Convicted murderer and former late-term abortionist <a href=\"\/news\/tag\/kermit-gosnell\/\">Kermit Gosnell<\/a>\u00a0performed abortions past the 24-week legal limit at his dingy &#8216;House of Horrors&#8217; in Philadelphia &#8212; and if the babies survived, he snipped their spinal cords. In Kansas, late abortionist George Tiller <a href=\"\/news\/there-is-no-federal-law-protecting-the-preborn-from-abortion-at-any-time\/\">would perform abortions<\/a> on young women and girls for &#8220;mental health reasons,&#8221; such as not being able to attend prom or a rock concert. He also had Dr. Kristin Neuhaus <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifesitenews.com\/news\/abortionists-license-stripped-for-irresponsibly-facilitating-teens-partial\">rubber stamp<\/a> these abortions\u00a0for\u00a0teens.<\/p>\n<p>If those aren&#8217;t &#8220;the most flimsy of physical excuses,&#8221; it&#8217;s hard to say what is.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ArticleAd1\">\n<p><!-- \/1011927\/LAN_300_by_250_top_article --><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1473179053567-0\" class=\"ArticleAd1a\"><script>\ngoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1473179053567-0'); });\n<\/script><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Live Action News&#8217; Kristi Burton Brown <a href=\"\/news\/late-term-abortion-needs-to-end-in-america\/\">reports<\/a> that &#8220;even though federal law bans most partial-birth abortions (PBA),\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/state-policy\/explore\/bans-specific-abortion-methods-used-after-first-trimester\">only 19 states<\/a>\u00a0have actually banned the procedure themselves.&#8221; So what does this mean as to the legality of the procedure? She explains:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The federal law bans PBA when it is committed on federal property \u2013 such as military bases \u2013 or when it involves\u00a0interstate commerce. As\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.aul.org\/downloads\/2016-Legislative-Guides\/Abortion\/Partial-Birth_Abortion_Ban_Act_-_2016_LG.pdf\">explained here<\/a>,\u00a0this means that partial-birth abortions could shockingly still be performed in the other 31 states under certain circumstances. While a number of these 31 states ban late-term abortion, and while PBA is commonly thought of as a late-term abortion procedure, it can be performed earlier in a pregnancy as well.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/state-policy\/explore\/bans-specific-abortion-methods-used-after-first-trimester\">Three of the states<\/a>\u00a0that ban PBA only ban it \u201cpost-viability.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-67013\" src=\"https:\/\/www.liveactionnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/partialbirthabortion.jpg\" alt=\"partialbirthabortion\" width=\"672\" height=\"372\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/partialbirthabortion.jpg 672w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/partialbirthabortion-300x166.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 672px) 100vw, 672px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Live Action News&#8217; Carole Novielli addresses the fact that <a href=\"\/news\/partial-birth-abortion-was-it-really-rare\/\">partial-birth abortions do happen<\/a> &#8212; and they happen much more frequently than we have been led to believe:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In 1997, the head of the National Coalition of Abortion Providers (NCAP), Ron Fitzsimmons,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/1997\/02\/26\/us\/an-abortion-rights-advocate-says-he-lied-about-procedure.html?_r=0\" target=\"_blank\">admitted<\/a>\u00a0that he \u201clied through his teeth\u201d two years earlier when he claimed the procedure was \u201crare.\u201d He later claimed that approximately 3,000-5,000 partial birth abortions were performed annually, the majority\u00a0on healthy babies.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>She also quotes a nurse who witnessed a partial-birth abortion, performed by the creator of the procedure. Nurse Brenda Pratt Shafer was horrified by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.priestsforlife.org\/testimonies\/1132-statement-of-brenda-pratt-shafer-rn-before-the-subcommittee-on-the-constitution\">what she saw<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Dr. Haskell went in with forceps and grabbed the baby\u2019s legs and pulled them down into the birth canal. Then he delivered the baby\u2019s body and the arms\u2013 everything but the head. The doctor kept the baby\u2019s head just inside the uterus.<\/p>\n<p>The baby\u2019s little fingers were clasping and unclasping, and his feet were kicking. Then the doctor stuck the scissors through the back of his head, and the baby\u2019s arms jerked out in a flinch, a startle reaction, like a baby does when he thinks that he might fall.<\/p>\n<p>The doctor opened up the scissors, stuck a high-powered suction tube into the opening and sucked the baby\u2019s brains out. Now the baby was completely limp. I was really completely unprepared for what I was seeing. I almost threw up as I watched the doctor do these things.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"ArticleAd2\">\n<p><!-- \/1011927\/LAN_300_BY_250_mid_article --><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1473179101244-0\" class=\"ArticleAd2a\"><script>\ngoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1473179101244-0'); });\n<\/script><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The United States is one of only four nations where a woman can obtain an abortion at any point of pregnancy for any reason. That hardly sounds like the government is protecting preborn children.
