{"id":12841,"date":"2012-03-09T16:29:10","date_gmt":"2012-03-09T21:29:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.www.liveactionnews.org\/?p=12841"},"modified":"2016-01-29T14:49:00","modified_gmt":"2016-01-29T19:49:00","slug":"breaking-news-adf-lawsuit-to-expose-fraud-in-planned-parenthood","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/breaking-news-adf-lawsuit-to-expose-fraud-in-planned-parenthood\/","title":{"rendered":"ADF lawsuit to expose fraud at Planned Parenthood revealed"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><div id=\"attachment_12381\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.www.liveactionnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/planned-parenthood-sign.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12381\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12381 \" title=\"planned-parenthood-sign\" src=\"http:\/\/www.www.liveactionnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/planned-parenthood-sign.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"165\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-12381\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rampant fraud continues to be revealed in the abortion giant.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Today, the Alliance Defense Fund <a href=\"http:\/\/www.adfmedia.org\/(X(1)S(tjbu5v45c1v2yprkrngmekf5))\/News\/PRDetail\/5395?AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1\">announced<\/a> that they have filed a complaint against Planned Parenthood on behalf of former Planned Parenthood director, Abby Johnson.\u00a0 Johnson is bringing her case under the Federal False Claims Act and the Texas Medicaid Fraud Prevention Act.<\/p>\n<p>In their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.adfmedia.org\/(X(1)S(tjbu5v45c1v2yprkrngmekf5))\/News\/PRDetail\/5395?AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1\">press release<\/a>, ADF states:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>ADF attorneys filed the suit under a federal law that allows \u201cwhistleblowers\u201d with inside information to expose fraudulent billing by government contractors. By law, such cases must initially be filed under seal and may not be made public while federal and state governments decide whether to join the case\u2026.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><em>The lawsuit alleges that Planned Parenthood of Houston and Southeast Texas, now known as Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast, filed at least 87,075 false, fraudulent, or ineligible claims with the Texas Women\u2019s Health Program. As a result, Planned Parenthood wrongfully received and retained reimbursements totaling more than $5.7 million.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em><\/em>The complaint, which can be read in its entirety <a href=\"http:\/\/www.adfmedia.org\/files\/JohnsonComplaint.pdf\">here<\/a>, details the many false claims that Planned Parenthood made.\u00a0 Johnson, who is now a Senior Advisor for Americans United for Life, claims that approximately 40% of the types of claims discussed in the complaint were \u201cfalse, fraudulent, and\/or ineligible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the complaint details that she has personal, direct, and non-public knowledge of these false claims.\u00a0 The fraudulent activity of Planned Parenthood included 33,005 claims and amounted to $3,692,092 in 2007.\u00a0 It included 26,675 claims in 2008 and $780,268 that year.\u00a0 In 2009, the fraudulent claims numbered 27,395, and the dollars added up to $1,228,695.<\/p>\n<p>According to the complaint, \u201cPlanned Parenthood Gulf Coast wrongfully received and retained reimbursements from Texas WHP funds totaling at least $5,701,055.\u201d\u00a0 The complaint goes on to detail exactly how the abortion giant intentionally covered up their fraud.\u00a0 Johnson asks the court for several things in judgment, including three times the damages sustained by the United States and two times the damages sustained by the state of Texas.<\/p>\n<p>Mike Norton, who is Senior Counsel for ADF on the life issue <a href=\"http:\/\/www.adfmedia.org\/(X(1)S(tjbu5v45c1v2yprkrngmekf5))\/News\/PRDetail\/5395?AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1\">stated<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Americans deserve to know if their hard-earned tax money is being funneled to groups that are misusing it.\u00a0 No matter where a person stands on abortion, everyone should agree that Planned Parenthood has to play by the same rules as everyone else. It certainly isn\u2019t entitled to a penny of public funds, especially if it is committing Medicaid fraud.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Dr.Charmaine Yoest, President and CEO of Americans United for Life, is in full support of Johnson\u2019s lawsuit.\u00a0 She <a href=\"http:\/\/money.msn.com\/business-news\/article.aspx?feed=PR&amp;Date=20120309&amp;ID=14877014\">explains<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>This case bravely brought by AUL&#8217;s Senior Advisor\u00a0Abby Johnson\u00a0is more evidence of Planned Parenthood&#8217;s harmful and dishonest practices and cannot be ignored. With such evidence consistently building, the American public deserves answers.\u00a0 Currently, taxpayers are forced to give over\u00a0$1 million dollars\u00a0a day in tax monies to this organization under investigation.
