The suit accuses the companies of selling fetal body parts for profit. The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ocregister.com\/articles\/tissue-731858-fetal-research.html\">Orange County Register reports<\/a> that the suit alleges, &#8220;DaVinci Biosciences and its sister company DV Biologics advertised and sold hundreds of units of fetal tissue and stem cells to research facilities around the world, collecting tens of thousands of dollars in revenue.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>District Attorney Tony Rackauckas held a news conference Wednesday in which he outlined the accusations against the biomedical companies. In his statement, <a href=\"http:\/\/orangecountyda.org\/civica\/press\/display.asp?layout=2&amp;Entry=4950\">printed in full here,<\/a> Rackauckas emphasized, &#8220;This case is NOT about whether it should be lawful to sell fetal parts or whether fetal tissue research is ethical or legal. We are simply charging these Defendants with illegally selling hundreds of fetal tissue products for profit.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"ArticleAd1\">\n<p><!-- \/1011927\/LAN_300_by_250_top_article --><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1473179053567-0\" class=\"ArticleAd1a\"><script>\ngoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1473179053567-0'); });\n<\/script><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The statement notes some profits received, per fetal part:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Heart \u2013 up to $674 in profit<\/li>\n<li>Liver \u2013 up to $233 in profit<\/li>\n<li>Stomach \u2013 up to $221 in profit<\/li>\n<li>Small Intestine \u2013 up to $664 in profit<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The statement summarizes the timeline of the case:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>From 2009 to 2015, the defendants obtained aborted fetus donations from Planned Parenthood and turned those donations into a profit-driven business. They did so by selling tissues and cells from the heart, lungs, kidneys, brain, intestines, skeletal muscle and bones of the aborted fetus donations. The companies advertised and sold these, what they called \u201cprenatal products\u201d from 2009-2015 to companies all around the world, earning hundreds of thousands of dollars in revenue.<\/p>\n<p>The defendants pressed onward, year-after-year, in an attempt to beat their \u201ccompetition\u201d and increase margins &#8212; &#8230; the defendants intentionally set their prices as high as possible in an effort to maximize their profits&#8230;. They were encouraged to offer discounts, coupons, and sales-pricing on fetal products to move \u201cinventory\u201d more quickly as well&#8230;. fetal products were routinely sold at a 10-fold or higher mark-up over their costs. The company also charged marked-up packaging and handling fees, as well as shipping fees, so as to earn a little extra profit on every transaction.<\/p>\n<p>It is estimated that the companies sold hundreds of different fetal tissue products for valuable consideration in violation of the law. Each unlawful sale is a separate act of unlawful and unfair competition under California\u2019s Business and Professions Code Section 17200 for which civil penalties and injunctive relief are warranted and hereby sought by way of this Complaint.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div id=\"attachment_128309\" style=\"width: 455px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"\/news\/ca-district-attorney-suing-fetal-parts-companies-partnered-planned-parenthood\/fetal-parts-press-conference-orange-county-da\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-128309\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-128309\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-128309 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.liveactionnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Fetal-Parts-press-conference-orange-county-DA.jpg\" alt=\"Photo from Andrew Moore's FB page\" width=\"445\" height=\"598\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Fetal-Parts-press-conference-orange-county-DA.jpg 445w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Fetal-Parts-press-conference-orange-county-DA-223x300.jpg 223w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 445px) 100vw, 445px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-128309\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A photo from the press conference, including a prop the DA used to demonstrate that the fetal parts being sold are coming from actual human beings.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Center for Medical Progress, which exposed the companies and their relationship with Planned Parenthood,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.centerformedicalprogress.org\/2016\/10\/california-orange-county-district-attorney-files-case-against-planned-parenthood-baby-parts-partner-dv-biologics\/\">issued a statement<\/a> Wednesday, saying:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>For eight years, Planned Parenthood supplied aborted baby hearts, lungs, brains, <span class=\"text_exposed_show\">and intestines to DV Biologics, which DV Biologics then resold for profit. In exchange for merely providing access to aborted baby body parts, <strong>Planned Parenthood received kickback contributions from DaVinci Biosciences over the course of their eight-year contract<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>The wheels of justice are beginning to turn against Planned Parenthood and their corrupt business partners in the illicit trade in aborted baby body parts. Planned Parenthood is not above the law, and law enforcement and elected representatives everywhere must now hold Planned Parenthood accountable for their barbaric profiteering off of pregnant women and the body parts of their aborted children.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Bwn0QBhy2TQ\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Also taking sharp interest in the lawsuit is the chairman of the House Select Panel on Infant Lives, Rep. Marsha Blackburn, who has championed the investigation into the many tentacles of the fetal parts industry. Blackburn issued a <a href=\"https:\/\/energycommerce.house.gov\/news-center\/press-releases\/blackburn-statement-lawsuit-filed-ca-district-attorney-against-tissue\">statement<\/a> that said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>For nearly a year, critics of this Panel\u2019s fact-finding investigation have repeatedly called for it to be disbanded, saying there\u2019s nothing to see here. They claimed there was no wrongdoing in the fetal tissue industry. This claim was soundly debunked with a lawsuit filed by Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas, which reveals that officials at the state and local level share our concern that some fetal tissue middlemen may have broken the law.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And while the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/local\/lanow\/la-me-ln-fetal-tissue-charges-orange-county-20161012-snap-story.html\">Los Angeles Times reports<\/a> that &#8220;Planned Parenthood said the organization was not involved in the case,&#8221; Blackburn says otherwise, adding:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Documents produced to the Panel show that, from 2008 through 2015, DaVinci Biosciences obtained its fetal tissue from Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties (PPOSBC). DaVinci has told the Panel that PPOSBC \u201cdonated\u201d the fetal tissue. <strong>But DaVinci has also told the Panel that its executives contributed thousands of dollars to PPOSBC starting before the Planned Parenthood affiliate began \u201cdonating\u201d fetal tissue to DaVinci.<\/strong> Planned Parenthood has said PPOSBC was its only affiliate that gave fetal tissue directly to a research company.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>Based on the evidence uncovered during our Panel\u2019s investigation, we have been deeply troubled about the relationship between DaVinci and PPOSBC, which appears to have created a market for the donation of human fetal tissue,\u201d Blackburn said. \u201cAs a result, our Panel is continuing to look at connections between Planned Parenthood and tissue procurement companies. The lawsuit filed by the Orange County DA shows that there is also broad support at the state and local level to uncover the truth about what is going on in the abortion and fetal tissue industries.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In response to the district attorney\u2019s lawsuit, Live Action president and founder Lila Rose released the following statement:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Today, the Orange County district attorney announced its lawsuit against two of Planned Parenthood\u2019s trusted allies and business partners, DaVinci Biosciences and DV Biologics. For eight years, Planned Parenthood partnered with DaVinci Biosciences and DV Biologics in their grisly scheme to harvest and traffick in the body parts of the babies Planned Parenthood aborted.<\/p>\n<p>I commend the\u00a0Orange County district attorney,\u00a0and I hope this sets a precedent for prosecutors and law enforcement across the nation.\u00a0 Abortion is a barbaric and cruel practice, and it should come as no surprise that those callous enough to profit off killing defenseless children in the womb would allegedly profit off selling their organs piecemeal.\u00a0 It\u2019s time to end these grave human rights abuses against our most vulnerable children and bring those responsible to justice.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Planned Parenthood continues to see the consequences of the wide-reaching investigation exposing its role in fetal parts trafficking.
