The consent decree states that the Jackson Police Department will\u00a0not interfere with anyone holding signs, speaking, or preaching on public sidewalks. The City will also cease interfering with people sitting on chairs or resting signs on sidewalks.<\/p>\n<p>Pro-Life Mississippi, a group that protests outside Jackson Women&#8217;s Health, claims that the Jackson Police Department has repeatedly interfered with pro-lifers&#8217; right to free speech through &#8220;discriminatory and unconstitutional enforcement of Mississippi statutes.&#8221;\u00a0In 2014, Pro-Life Mississippi filed a complaint against the City of Jackson, as well as several officers of the Jackson Police Department, alleging incidents of harassment\u00a0including\u00a0unjust arrest of\u00a0protesters, and officers challenging\u00a0protesters&#8217; right to rest their signs on the sidewalk.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ArticleAd1\"><!-- \/1011927\/LAN_300_by_250_top_article --><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1473179053567-0\" class=\"ArticleAd1a\"><script>\ngoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1473179053567-0'); });\n<\/script><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/m.jacksonfreepress.com\/news\/2016\/oct\/05\/city-agrees-stop-interfering-anti-abortion-protest\/?templates=mobile\">Jackson Free Press<\/a>\u00a0reports that the consent decree will stand for one year, after which time\u00a0the court will review it and could potentially take further action if the City does not adhere to the terms of the agreement.<\/p>\n<p>The facility\u00a0is run by Diane Derzis, who formerly owned a clinic in Birmingham, Alabama, which was closed due to extensive <a href=\"http:\/\/abortiondocs.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/NEW-WOMAN-ALL-WOMEN-201203011.pdf\">health code violations<\/a>\u00a0after three patients were <a href=\"\/news\/mississippi-abortionist-is-a-great-decorator-but-not-so-good-with-patient-safety\/\">hospitalized<\/a> in the same day.
