The Hyde Amendment, which prohibits taxpayer funded abortions except in the cases of rape or the life of the mother, is a rider which has passed the budget every year with bipartisan support since 1976.<\/p>\n<p>To celebrate this monumental anniversary of 40 years, Secular Pro-Life Perspectives has <a href=\"\/news\/hellohyde-initiative-celebrates-millions-of-lives-saved-by-the-hyde-amendment\/\">been planning<\/a> their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hellohyde.org\/\">#HelloHyde campaign<\/a> for months. The group sent out a press release for September 30, and advertised their Twitter campaign <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/secularprolife\/?fref=ts\">over Facebook,<\/a> complete with suggested tweets. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=%23HydeSavesLives&amp;src=tyah\">#HydeSavesLives<\/a> is a trend on twitter.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ArticleAd1\">\n<p><!-- \/1011927\/LAN_300_by_250_top_article --><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1473179053567-0\" class=\"ArticleAd1a\"><script>\ngoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1473179053567-0'); });\n<\/script><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Hyde Amendment is not merely about protecting the conscience rights of taxpayers. As the press release highlights, in the states where the Hyde Amendment is in effect, one out of nine people born through the Medicaid program is alive today as a result. The <a href=\"https:\/\/lozierinstitute.org\/hydeat40\/\">total estimate is 2.13 million people<\/a>. It&#8217;s still saving lives today. To see how many individuals were saved by each state, visit\u00a0the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hellohyde.org\/\">#HelloHyde website<\/a>, which has tweetable graphics along with state figures.<\/p>\n<p>The #HelloHyde campaign puts a face to those individual children saved, but also to those parents who were able to receive health care through Medicaid.<\/p>\n<p>From the press release:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI&#8217;m the daughter of poor Cuban immigrants and I received Medicaid care as a baby, so the Hyde Amendment is incredibly important to me,\u201d said fellow #HelloHyde organizer Gina Mallica. \u201cLow-income children deserve a chance at life, not a government-subsidized death.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Valerie Lopez, who became unexpectedly pregnant while a student at Texas A&amp;M and received maternity care through Medicaid, agreed. \u201cThe argument that we should repeal the Hyde Amendment to reduce the low-income birthrate is incredibly offensive,\u201d she said. \u201cThe Hyde Amendment sends a message: my son Noah\u2019s life matters.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_127358\" style=\"width: 553px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-127358\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-127358\" src=\"https:\/\/www.liveactionnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/noah-2.jpg\" alt=\"Screenshot of HelloHyde.org.\" width=\"543\" height=\"408\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/noah-2.jpg 543w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/noah-2-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/noah-2-500x376.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 543px) 100vw, 543px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-127358\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Screenshot of HelloHyde.org.<\/p><\/div><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Hyde Amendment, which was <a href=\"\/news\/house-committee-hears-testimony-on-hyde-amendment\/\">just discussed<\/a>\u00a0September 23 during\u00a0<a href=\"\/news\/rep-trent-franks-americans-need-to-know-if-candidates-will-defend-innocent-life\/\">a subcommittee hearing of the House Judiciary Committee<\/a>, could be in jeopardy. The <a href=\"\/news\/democratic-partys-2016-draft-platform-goes-further-on-abortion\/\">Democratic Party Platform<\/a>\u00a0and Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton are in favor of repeal, as is vice-presidential candidate <a href=\"\/news\/clinton-vp-tim-kaine-endorses-taxpayer-funding-for-abortion\/\">Tim Kaine<\/a>, despite his claim that he is personally opposed to abortion.
