Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is standing by new\u00a0rules\u00a0that would require abortion facilities in the state to cremate or bury the remains\u00a0of\u00a0aborted children. Despite the threat of a lawsuit and opposition from pro-abortion groups, the\u00a0Republican governor said\u00a0\u201cit is imperative to establish higher standards that reflect our respect for the sanctity of life.\u201d<\/p>\n

Abbott, who said\u00a0preborn children should not be\u00a0\u201ctreated like medical waste,” affirmed his approval for the rules prohibiting\u00a0abortion facilities from disposing the bodies of aborted children in landfills.<\/p>\n

The rules were proposed in July by the state’s Health and Human Services Commission with a 30-day comment period. However,\u00a0Breitbart reports<\/a>\u00a0that the state\u00a0republished the rules with more information after reviewing feedback, triggering another 30-day comment period.<\/p>\n

Abbott, who has affirmed that his\u00a0LIFE initiative will make Texas the “strongest pro-life state in the nation,” is also calling for stronger protections for preborn children, a prohibition on altering abortion procedures to procure fetal body parts, and a total defunding of Planned Parenthood and abortion facilities.<\/p>\n

Abbott’s LIFE initiative\u00a0calls on the Texas legislature to enact the following:<\/p>\n

L<\/strong>aws must be changed to (1) make it a felony under Texas law to perform a partial-birth abortion; and (2) make it illegal for abortion doctors to risk a woman\u2019s health by altering the procedure to preserve fetal body parts.<\/p>\n

I<\/strong>mprove and expand the availability of adoption services; and increase awareness about Texas\u2019 already best-in-the-nation child-support enforcement program, so that young mothers considering how to deal with pregnancy know the father will be held accountable to support his family.<\/p>\n

F<\/strong>unding for Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers out of taxpayer money must be eliminated completely, both at the State and local levels.<\/p>\n

E<\/strong>liminate and criminalize any sale or transaction of fetal tissue by an abortion clinic for any purpose whatsoever.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
