On Friday, the House Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice, of the House Judiciary Committee, conducted a hearing<\/a>\u00a0examining the Hyde Amendment and the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.<\/p>\n

Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ), who has\u00a0sponsored legislation<\/a> to protect babies born alive from abortions, expressed concern in\u00a0his opening statement, stating that\u00a0the Obama administration and a potential Hillary Clinton administration “may intend to reinterpret the plain and longstanding meaning of the Hyde Amendment.”<\/p>\n

Franks also lamented a\u00a0lack of legislation\u00a0ensuring that babies\u00a0who survive abortions\u00a0receive life-saving care. He condemned the lacking\u00a0debate and\u00a0votes in the Senate.\u00a0Franks also\u00a0reminded listeners about late-term abortionist and convicted murderer, Kermit Gosnell, who was allowed to commit crimes against preborn children\u00a0for years.<\/p>\n

“This insidious sense had taken hold,” Franks said, “that if we’re dealing with abortion, in any of its aspects, we were dealing with ‘a constitutional right,’ which overrode or trumped any local law that might protect the victims.”<\/p>\n
