Later on Friday, he visited some thirty terminally ill patients at Villa Speranza Hospice in northern Rome. According to Catholic News Agency, he greeted each patient one-by-one, as well as the patient&#8217;s family members, in what was no doubt a positive, once in a lifetime\u00a0experience for many of them.<\/p>\n<p>The Pope&#8217;s\u00a0appearances were a continuation of his &#8220;Mercy Friday&#8221;\u00a0trips, in which he has visited various facilities including\u00a0a drug and alcohol rehab center, a home for sick and elderly priests, and a community of women <a href=\"http:\/\/www.catholicherald.co.uk\/news\/2016\/08\/13\/pope-francis-makes-surprise-visit-to-women-rescued-from-prostitution\/\">rescued from prostitution.<\/a>\u00a0The Vatican explains that through Friday&#8217;s\u00a0visits, the Pope &#8220;wanted to give a strong sign of the importance of life, from its first moment to its natural end.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe acceptance of life and the guarantee of human dignity at all stages of development are lessons repeatedly stressed by Pope Francis,\u201d the Vatican continued, adding that the Pope\u2019s\u00a0day of caring for those in need\u00a0is a \u201cconcrete and tangible sign\u201d\u00a0of how we\u00a0should all look out for\u00a0\u201cthose in the most vulnerable and precarious situations.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Friday, Pope Francis continued his trend of acknowledging the value of life at all stages\u00a0via a surprise visit to\u00a0the neonatal unit, as well as the emergency room, at San Giovanni hospital in Rome.
