I recently stumbled across a woman\u2019s abortion story<\/a>\u00a0posted on the pro-choice website Feminizing in 2010. When the writer\u00a0became pregnant, she\u00a0and her partner had very little money. \u00a0She had an abortion because they\u00a0didn’t think they\u00a0could support the baby. The author identifies herself as \u201cpro-choice\u201d and maintains, \u201cI will always be pro-choice.\u201d Yet she freely admits that she regrets her abortion.<\/p>\n

The author and her partner were not using birth control because her partner was believed to be sterile. When the author found out she was pregnant, her first impulse was to keep the baby. She says:<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t view fertilized eggs as human beings, but I developed a very strong attachment to my embryo as soon as I saw the two pink lines on the test. I didn\u2019t want an abortion. I wanted a baby.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

She and her partner turned to their families for\u00a0help. Her mother mocked her and told her that if she had the baby, she would become an \u201caspiring welfare-mama\u201d and her baby would be \u201ca leech on society.\u201d The mother told her\u00a0to have an abortion. She was not willing to help with the financial costs of raising the baby.\u00a0Her partner\u2019s father was also extremely unsupportive. She recalls him saying\u00a0he would not \u201cplay grandpappy\u201d for a\u00a0“bastard child.\u201d After heaping verbal abuse on the woman, he offered to pay for an abortion.<\/p>\n
