Lankford introduces federal bill banning second trimester dismemberment abortions"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>On Thursday, Senator James Lankford (R-OK) introduced the Dismemberment Abortion Ban Act, which would impose a national ban on the second-trimester abortion procedure dilation and evacuation, in the Senate.<\/p>\n<p>The bill, which has also been introduced in the House of Representatives by Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ), specifically prohibits \u201cknowingly dismembering a living unborn child and extracting such unborn child one piece at a time from the uterus through the use of clamps, grasping forceps, tongs, scissors or similar instruments that, through the convergence of two rigid levers, slice, crush or grasp a portion of the unborn child\u2019s body in order to cut or rip it off.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Surely we can all agree that dismantling a child in the womb during a late-term abortion is inhumane and is not reflective of American values,&#8221; Lankford said in support of the bill. However, abortion advocates do not agree, and have fiercely opposed many dismemberment abortion bans introduced at the state level.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ArticleAd1\">\n<p><!-- \/1011927\/LAN_300_by_250_top_article --><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1473179053567-0\" class=\"ArticleAd1a\"><script>\ngoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1473179053567-0'); });\n<\/script><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Despite what the procedure entails, abortion advocates <a href=\"\/news\/naral-calls-kansas-abortion-dismemberment-ban-medically-inaccurate\/\">falsely claim<\/a> that \u201cdismemberment abortion\u201d is a \u201cmedically inaccurate\u201d name for dilation and evacuation (D&amp;E) abortions, a procedure commonly used in the second trimester. The National Abortion Federation\u2019s guide on dismemberment abortions <a href=\"\/news\/the-vanishing-baby-from-nafs-dismemberment-abortion-guide\/\">actually removes<\/a> the baby from the diagram, instead depicting forceps entering an empty uterus.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, NAF&#8217;s own instructional materials <a href=\"\/news\/naral-calls-kansas-abortion-dismemberment-ban-medically-inaccurate\/\">describe<\/a> \u201cgrasping a fetal part,\u201d then \u201cwithdraw[ing] the forceps while gently rotating it,\u201d for the purpose of achieving \u201cseparation.\u201d If that\u2019s not clear enough, NAF also describes \u201cfetal extremit[ies]\u201d (i.e., limbs), \u201cfetal trunk[s],\u201d and \u201cfetal skeletal development.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, <a href=\"\/news\/tag\/warren-hern\/\">notorious<\/a> late-term abortionist Warren Hern <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nrlc.org\/uploads\/stateleg\/DismembermentFAQJan15.pdf\">has admitted<\/a> that \u201cthere is no possibility of denial of an act of destruction by the operator [of D&amp;E procedures]. It is before one&#8217;s eyes.
