(Save the Storks<\/a>)\u00a0The words \u201ctoxic environment\u201d captured my interest, so I clicked on the\u00a0Cosmopolitan article<\/a>. Perusing Ms Gupta\u2019s writing, I quickly stumbled upon the headline quote from Planned Parenthood representative, Mary Alice Carter, who said:<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need to be sure that we are working on all sides to destigmatize and\u00a0<\/i>normalize abortion care so we reduce the toxic environment around care.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

Destigmatize and normalize abortion care.<\/p>\n

This short sentence interrupted my thoughts and, like a merry-go-round, I read it over and over again. See, the only way these five words can become a reality is if culture willfully decides and resolves that an unborn child is not actually a human life.<\/p>\n

But what about science?<\/b><\/p>\n

This is the chilling reality of Mary Alice Carter\u2019s five words: they demand that science be deliberately ignored. They require the proponent of this ideology to knowingly deny\u00a0scientific fact<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Perhaps you are offended by my candid response that this position stipulates science be omitted from one\u2019s reasoning. Or maybe you\u2019re wondering how such a position would require the total abandonment of science?<\/p>\n

The answer lies in Mary Alice Carter\u2019s own words. \u201cWe need to be sure that we are working on all sides to\u00a0<\/i>destigmatize<\/i><\/b>.\u201d\u00a0<\/i>Abortion has a stigma associated with it. It always has.<\/p>\n

Why?<\/b><\/p>\n

Because no matter how much abortion proponents tell you an abortion is like getting your tonsils removed, science (and culture as a whole) recognizes that surgically removing a human being at any stage of gestation simply is not equivocal to surgically removing one\u2019s lymphatic tissue.\u00a0Thus,\u00a0in order to \u201cdestigmatize\u201d abortion, it requires the conscious neglect of science.<\/a><\/p>\n
