The Virginia legislature recently considered a bill that would require women seeking an abortion to receive an ultrasound.\u00a0 Grasping for arguments against the bill, various abortion advocates have stated that requiring an ultrasound, in the words of Virginia Del. Charniele Herring, is \u201cakin to rape.\u201d<\/p>\n

The absurdity of this claim has already been eloquently debunked by writers for\u00a0Live Action<\/a>,\u00a0LifeNews<\/a>,\u00a0LifeSiteNews<\/a>, and other organizations, so I won\u2019t spend time reiterating their points.\u00a0 Equating an ultrasound to rape is ridiculous, but if the pro-choice movement wishes, two can play this game.\u00a0 Let\u2019s look at a much more valid comparison: rape and abortion.<\/p>\n

Rape and abortion both stem out of a disrespect for human life.\u00a0 Just as in rape, a victim of abortion is viewed as a commodity rather than a person with inherent value.\u00a0 Victims of rape don\u2019t consent to this abuse, nor do victims of abortion.\u00a0 In a painful invasion, the unborn are stripped of all privacy and denied all freedoms.\u00a0 In contrast to rape however, few abortion victims live to recover.<\/p>\n

The flaws with the \u201cultrasound = rape\u201d comparison have already been discussed at length.\u00a0 What I would like to focus on is a broader problem: the pro-choice movement\u2019s exploitation of rape.<\/p>\n

The political world is filled with manipulative, loaded language — especially when discussing abortion.\u00a0 By calling ultrasounds a form of rape, abortion advocates are stealing emotions from one issue and tacking them onto something that is completely unrelated.\u00a0 They are trying to take the sense of outrage that you (rightly) feel toward rape and have you feel the same way about an ultrasound.\u00a0 This is not only deceptive, but wrong.<\/p>\n

How dare abortion advocates exploit a tragic incident to further their agenda?\u00a0 How dare they use one human rights abuse to promote another?\u00a0 This ridiculous argument is disrespectful to actual rape victims, making trite their painful experience.\u00a0 Rape should be viewed as the tragedy that it is, not used as a political playing card.<\/p>\n

This isn\u2019t an isolated incident.\u00a0 The pro-choice movement seems to have an obsession with rape.\u00a0 Understanding the emotion released when discussing rape, the supposedly \u201cpro-women\u201d movement has commodified victims, using them to further their agenda.\u00a0 \u201cWhat about victims of rape?\u201d is constantly asked when regulations on abortion are proposed, despite the fact that\u00a0only 1%<\/a>\u00a0of abortions are received by rape victims. In a society that currently\u00a0adores being a part of the 99%<\/a>, I find it strange that pro-choice groups often demand that decisions be made on behalf of the [less than] 1%.<\/p>\n

Abortion and rape are both human rights abuses, and the pro-abortion movement does little to stop either of them.\u00a0 (In fact, the abortion movement\u2019s poster-child, Planned Parenthood, has been\u00a0caught<\/a>\u00a0repeatedly failing to report cases of statutory rape of minors.)\u00a0 The abortion movement must stop abusing the abuse argument to further their cause.\u00a0 If the case for abortion can not stand on its own merit, then it deserves to crumble.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
