\u201cMoral\u201d is defined as<\/a> \u201cconcerned with the principles of right and wrong behavior and the goodness or badness of human character.\u201d\u00a0 I think most of us can agree that there are right and wrong ways to behave and that humans can demonstrate both good and bad character.\u00a0 So, on the issue of abortion\u2014and the issue of defending human life in general\u2014what is the moral position to take?<\/p>\n

First, in order to come to any sort of moral conclusion in the matter, we need to make a basic assumption that this article is predicated on:\u00a0 we\u2019re talking about human lives.\u00a0 You can\u2019t argue against my conclusions on the basis that an unborn child isn\u2019t a unique, living human being.\u00a0 We\u2019re already assuming that based on the Scientific Basis for Defending All Human Life<\/a>.\u00a0 If you don\u2019t believe that an unborn child is a human being, you have an issue with science and morality, but you may need to resolve your science first.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>

Abortion: equally immoral as the Holocaust.<\/p><\/div>\n

Next, let\u2019s ask and answer four questions.\u00a0 1)\u00a0 What is the result of declaring certain classes of humans as \u201cless\u201d than others?\u00a0 2)\u00a0 We all agree that Hitler\u2019s genocide of the Jews was wrong and immoral.\u00a0 How does this relate to abortion?\u00a0 4)\u00a0 Is it actually wrong to fail to stand up for innocent lives?\u00a0 5)\u00a0 What should good moral character compel me to do?\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n

What is the result of declaring certain classes of humans as \u201cless\u201d than others?<\/strong>
\nThe result is discrimination and\/or genocide against groups of people.\u00a0 As I was studying for my Senior Seminar Paper, I came across a list compiling quotes of people accusing other people of being less than human.\u00a0 You can judge for yourself the horrible immoral results that came from the statements below.\u00a0 Here\u2019s the relevant part of my paper:<\/p>\n

Sadly, courts, doctors, and political and cultural leaders throughout national and international history have not always seen every human being as equal.\u00a0 Human beings have been discriminated against and viewed as \u201cnon-persons,\u201d many times, simply based on their race, gender, or class.\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cA negro of the African race was regarded\u2026as an article of property.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 A Negro \u201cbelongs to an inferior and subordinate class.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cIn the eyes of the law\u2026the slave is not a person.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 Buckner Payne, a publisher, declared in 1867 that \u201cthe negro is not a human being.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cAn Indian is not a person within the meaning of the Constitution.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 Secretary of State Henry Clay stated in 1825 that \u201cIndians [are] inferior to the Anglo-Saxon.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 Dr. Joseph Nott, in 1847, concluded that \u201cthe Indian\u2026is an untamable, carnivorous animal.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

In 1779, Hugh Brackenridge wrote that \u201cthe life of these [aborigines] is\u2026not human.\u201d\u00a0 Prosecutor Andrei Vysbinski, in 1938 stated that \u201c[Purge Trial Defendants are] a foul-smelling heap of human garbage.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 People who were purged by the Soviet government were designated as \u201cunpersons who had never existed.\u201d\u00a0 Lenin and Stalin repeatedly told their people, from 1918-1934, \u201cKulaks are not human beings.\u201d\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n

Adolf Hitler proclaimed to Germany in 1923, \u201cJews are undoubtedly a race, but not human.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 The 1936 German Supreme Court declared, \u201cThe Reichsgericht itself refused to recognize Jews\u2026as \u2018persons\u2019 in the legal sense.\u201d\u00a0 In a British voting rights case of 1909, the court stated, \u201cThe statutory word \u2018person\u2019 did not in these circumstances include women.\u201d\u00a0 The 19th century poet, Charles Baudelaire wrote, \u201cWomen are domestic animals.\u201d\u00a0 <\/em>(Information cited to Scott v. Sandford<\/em> and William Brennan, Ph.D, Dehumanizing the Vulnerable:\u00a0 When Word Games Take Lives by (Loyola University Press, 1995).)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

If, indeed, the unborn are human beings (as science states that they are), abortion is on the same level as all the genocides and human rights violations that resulted from the statements above.<\/p>\n

We all agree that Hitler\u2019s genocide of the Jews was wrong and immoral.\u00a0 How does this relate to abortion?<\/strong>
\nIf you\u2019re sick of hearing people relate abortion to the holocaust, think of any other mass genocide you\u2019d prefer\u2014Cambodia under Pol Pot, Rwanda, or Darfur, for example.\u00a0 Abortion is on the same scale as other mass genocides because in both instances, certain groups are targeted for death based on qualities they can\u2019t control.\u00a0 The Jews were Jewish, plain and simple, no matter what they did.\u00a0 Educated Cambodians or ones who wore glasses couldn\u2019t help their backgrounds or how they were born.\u00a0 These are clearly immoral positions, rooted in wrong thinking and bad character.<\/p>\n

Similarly, unborn children didn\u2019t place themselves in their mother\u2019s wombs.\u00a0 They are targeted merely because of qualities they can\u2019t help<\/a>:\u00a0 their size, level of development, environment, and dependency.\u00a0 ALL of these are morally wrong criteria to judge the worth of a human being on.\u00a0 This YouTube video<\/a> is worth viewing for more on this question.<\/p>\n

Is it actually wrong to fail to stand up for innocent lives?<\/strong>
\nTo answer this question, people need a moral basis or code that they use as the foundation of their lives.\u00a0 Of course, for me, this foundation is my relationship with Jesus Christ.\u00a0 As I explained in the Christian Basis for Defending All Human Life<\/a>, Christians are indeed morally compelled to stand up for the innocent.<\/p>\n

If you are not a Christian, you should evaluate your own moral code.\u00a0 Does it tell you to \u201clive and let live\u201d?\u00a0 Well, my friends, sometimes to let someone live, we must take action.\u00a0 Beliefs must be paired with actions if they are to truly matter.<\/p>\n

I will say that the moral code based in \u201csurvival of the fittest\u201d is very dangerous.\u00a0 If you read about the Leopold and Loeb case Clarence Darrow argued to let the murderers of a young boy go free, you will see how frightening\u2014and wrong\u2014this moral code is. Darrow believed strongly in the survival of the fittest, and he claimed<\/a> that the two killed the ten-year-old boy “as they might kill a spider or a fly, for the experience.”<\/p>\n

What should good moral character compel me to do?<\/strong>
\nGood moral character is typically viewed as decency, respect, honor, virtue, and dignity.\u00a0 Decency should compel us to extend the equal right to life to each and every human being.\u00a0 Respect should cause us to speak the truth about the real effects of abortion.\u00a0 Honor should lead us to value each life as precious and worth fighting for.\u00a0 Virtue should enable us to open our mouths and stand up for what is actually right instead of sitting in the background.<\/p>\n

And basic dignity should compel us to never sit down until every human life \u2013yes, EVERY human life, not only the unborn\u2014is protected by love and by law.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
