margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1109\" title=\"naral\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/liveaction.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/naral.gif\" width=\"234\" height=\"101\" \/><br \/>\nNARAL has posted a \u201cquiz\u201d on its website, <a href=\"http:\/\/action.prochoiceamerica.org\/site\/PageNavigator\/2010_06_CPCQuiz_1\">here<\/a>, that attempts to \u201cinform\u201d the user on the problems of crisis pregnancy centers (CPCs).\u00a0\u00a0 The first question follows:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Question 1: <\/span>Which of the following misleading and false statements do CPCs tell women?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Condoms are not effective at preventing pregnancy and disease.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Abortion causes breast cancer.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The birth-control pill, emergency contraception, and other forms of hormonal contraception cause abortion.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Abortion causes dangerous and life-threatening psychological side effects.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The quiz states that the answer is, of course, all of the above.\u00a0 But, in fact, all of the statements are factually true.\u00a0 Let\u2019s take them one at a time:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Condoms commonly fail.\u00a0 Even newly purchased condoms can sometimes fail (read the back of the box), and About.com (owned by the NYTimes), states that condom <a href=\"http:\/\/womenshealth.about.com\/cs\/birthcontrol\/a\/effectivenessbc.htm\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;typical use&#8221; failure rate to prevent conception is 15%<\/a>.\u00a0 This is not surprising when we consider that over half of unwanted pregnancies occur while some sort of contraception is being used.<\/li>\n<li>This statement is unresolved at best.\u00a0 While the official position of the National Cancer Institute is that a link between abortion and breast cancer has not been established, multiple studies have listed abortion as a \u201crisk factor\u201d for developing breast cancer.\u00a0 One study last year by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lifenews.com\/nat5850.html\" target=\"_blank\">a National Cancer Institute Researcher reported a statistically significant 40% risk increase for women who have had abortions and listed it among &#8220;known and suspected risk factors.<\/a>&#8220;<\/li>\n<li>The vast majority of hormonal contraceptives (such as The Pill) work by doing three things: attempting to prevent<br \/>\novulation, thickening the cervical mucus, so that sperm has a harder time reaching the egg, and thickening the walls of the endometrium, so that a fertilized egg can\u2019t implant.\u00a0 The first two methods, if successful, don\u2019t cause abortion, but the third causes a genetically unique human person to be expelled from the body.\u00a0 Since even the most reliable birth control methods can fail to prevent pregnancy, it is obvious that the first two methods sometimes fail, as well.\u00a0 On certain methods, such as the intra-uterine devices, 45% women have been known to still be ovulating a year after implanting the device (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lifeissues.org\/connector\/pdfs\/feb10.pdf\">more info here<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li>Anyone who disputes this fact is out of touch with reality.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.messengers2.com\/articles\/discoveries_and_ethics\/effects_of_pregnancy.htm\">Here<\/a> is just one of the many studies that looks at the effect of loss of pregnancy on women.\u00a0 A relevant quote from the study: \u201cOur results indicate that over 25% of women who have had pregnancy losses feel they need professional help.\u00a0 Aborted women appear to require more and more sophisticated grief counseling than those who suffer other types of pregnancy loss.\u201d\u00a0 This is likely caused by the fact that, despite organizations like NARAL\u2019s best efforts, people intrinsically understand the simple fact that if their unborn baby wasn\u2019t alive, they wouldn\u2019t have to kill it.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The most baffling aspect of the entire quiz, however, is why NARAL should have a problem with crisis pregnancy centers.\u00a0 Is it because, rather than simply offering abortion, they inform women of the entire breadth of their choices in a situation?\u00a0 If NARAL is looking for misinformation, they should look a little closer to home, in the Planned Parenthood clinics, as the <a href=\"http:\/\/liveaction.org\/index.php\/projects\/rosaacuna\">Rosa Acuna<\/a> project has repeatedly shown.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><object width=\"560\" height=\"340\" classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\" \/><param name=\"src\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/UIXHrusvMDw&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1&amp;\" \/><param name=\"allowfullscreen\" value=\"true\" \/><embed width=\"560\" height=\"340\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/UIXHrusvMDw&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1&amp;\" allowFullScreen=\"true\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" \/><\/object><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NARAL has posted a \u201cquiz\u201d on its website, here, that attempts to \u201cinform\u201d the user on the problems of crisis pregnancy centers (CPCs).\u00a0\u00a0 The first question follows: Question 1: Which of the following misleading and false statements do CPCs tell women?
